This year 3GPP will close the GSM/EDGE RAN(GERAN) committee and incorporate it into the RAN Technical Specification Group (TSG) in an effort to streamline the maintenance of specifications. The previous work on GERAN will be transferred into two RAN working groups. RAN 5 will cater for test cases and RAN 6 will cater for the radio and protocol aspects.
